Keeping up with junk

Postby Nudd » Sun Dec 17, 2006 2:24 pm

Three cheers for TBN, it's been an eventful year that's about to give way to another even more eventful year.

Before we start going crazy for our holiday dinners, I'd like to address the dinner habits of a new breed of member, the spambot... They're a finnicky species indeed, and if you feed them yourself with comments and responses, they become uncontrollable and validated in their existance... we mods would prefer to feed them in our own way by erasing their very existance. To that end, I'd like to make the following request: Do not feed the spambots. (ie: Do not respond to them or acknowledge their existance)

That is all... have a happy and safe 17th of December.

Eh. fair enough.

For those who don't know, members with only one post (usually advertising something) with bland descriptions such as USA tend to be spambots.

Yeah... I'll be keeping my spam mongering to myself from now on.

Nothing against you at all, it's just really hard to monitor new people/bots posting when established members are posting right after them, not to mention I feel awful deleting spambot-responding posts of valued members.

I'd take no offence myself.

Isn't it possible to delete the spam post without deleting responses? I know that normal members can't do that, but can mods/admins?

You bet there is... but acknowledging spam posts that don't exist looks badtacular, almost as bad as having the spam posts around in the first place. So lets all just pretend they don't exist, like we do with the giant squid.
